Okay, so I’m at $66k now. I want to be at $50k by the end of the year, and I want to be finished before the end of 2017. How is that going to work?
Let’s talk about 2017 first, because 2016 is SO 2016.
If I start out at $50k… I have to first pay $24k into retirement, and only after that do I get to work on the mortgage. I have roughly $4700 a month to work with. $5000 bonus in January. Say $2000 in tax return in March. So getting to $23.5k will take
January – $9,700
Feb – $4700
March – $4700
April – $4700
Okay, so I should be able to work on the mortgage by May. I would have paid it down to around $46k by then (~$1000 a month minimum). Okay so then there are 8 remaining months. 8 * $5700 = $45,600. So that barely gets the job done. And it assume basically no vacations.
Allrighty. Let’s look at the remainder of this year. 4 months left = $22,800. Assumes no more spending for BM or anything else (yeah right…) But at least $22.8k comfortable gets me to $50k + $6k extra savings. I can’t say 2016 has been that painful, but I think it probably has been more isolating than I estimated.

On the left is what I spent. On the right is what I could’ve spent to cut costs while still having something nice. I’m sad about the money but the computer is f’ing awesome. I think I should still be able to get my mortgage under $50k by the end of the year.
