It’s a sad day. I went to play some sound at work, and the audio was skipping. I trouble shooted it, and eventually identified my $800 Ultra Desktop DAC was failing. I bought it new! Hell, I bought 2 of them! (before my thrifty days).
The DAC you don’t buy is the DAC that can’t fail. The company no longer supports the product, so getting it fixed isn’t practical. My whole audio setup is maybe $2000. I used it for hours every day, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot, but this is a reminder that when you pay for an electronic, you’re really paying to rent it for a few years until the electrons wear it down and it fails.
